Do you know your cardiovascular risk?

Do you know your cardiovascular risk?

Most people don’t know. Do you?

Most people think their Cholesterol will tell them and their doctors if they are prone to having a heart attack. Partially true.

A study performed by Dr. Akosah in young people (men 55 or younger and women 65 or younger) who had Heart Attacks showed that the Cholesterol Guidelines missed about 75% overall—82% of women and 66% of men (Akosah Journal of the Amer. Coll. Of Cardiology 2003:41#9: 1475-79)

Cardiovascular Disease
(Heart Attack) is still the #1 cause of death in the US today!

Wouldn’t it be great if we had testing that could show who is actually at risk for having a Heart Attack or Stroke so we could take actions to stabilize and reduce the risk of someone having a Heart Attack or Stroke? Measures for actual risk reduction and prevention?Wouldn’t it be great if we had testing that could show who is actually at risk for having a Heart Attack or Stroke so we could take actions to stabilize and reduce the risk of someone having a Heart Attack or Stroke? Well, we do have such testing that will be offered at Princeton Integrative Health. It’s called Carotid Intima Media Thickness Testing, or CIMT.

CIMT tells us the thickness of the Carotid Artery Wall (Intima and Media are the Inner and Medial layers of the artery Wall). Most importantly, CIMT tells us if there is plaque in the artery. Plaque is what ruptures in the artery wall that leads to a clot that causes a Heart Attack or Stroke. So when we identify plaque, we know who is at risk and we can take measures to stabilize that plaque to reduce the risk of rupture and therefore the risk of Heart Attack and Stroke.

My mission is to identify and reduce Cardiovascular Disease. I recommend everyone, especially with any risk factor, get checked with this noninvasive, 10 to 15 min specialized Ultrasound of their Coronary Arteries. Please spread the word and sign up today.
